2020 was a challenging year. Since I began my residency training in 2002 I thought 2020 would be the best year to be an eye doctor. Well it started out great with a couple of trips to Haiti to help some children with cataracts and then you all know the rest of the story. In person travel has been shut down for us since March.
We still managed to accomplish a lot during the year. A class of residents graduated and have either begun work in Haiti or are continuing on with fellowship training. We have been able to send many rounds of supplies, including both consumable and durable medical equipment. Treatment of retinopathy of prematurity continues in the “No More Blind Babies” campaign.
With the arrival of vaccinations we are excited to be able to plan our in person return to Haiti in a few weeks. We are planning big things for 2021. Stay tuned!
